The post Apple Watch Gets UAE Approval For Sleep Apnea Detection appeared first on Tech Magazine.
]]>Sleep apnea is a serious condition where breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep, and often remains undiagnosed. Affecting an estimated one billion people globally, if untreated, sleep apnea can lead to health complications, including hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular issues.
This new detection feature utilizes the Apple Watch’s accelerometer to monitor wrist movements associated with interruptions in breathing. These “Breathing Disturbances” are analyzed by a specific Apple Watch metric, allowing users to view data in the Health app on their iPhone or iPad.
While occasional disturbances are normal, Apple’s monitoring focuses on patterns that occur frequently over multiple nights, as they may indicate sleep apnea. The app classifies breathing patterns as either elevated or not elevated, and users can track their breathing disturbance history over one-month, six-month, or one-year periods.

Every 30 days, Apple’s system analyzes the accumulated data for signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. If it identifies consistent patterns, the user receives a notification advising them to consult a healthcare provider. The notification includes an educational section about sleep apnea risks, as well as a PDF summary containing three months of relevant data, which users can share with their doctors for further discussion.
The Sleep Apnea Notification algorithm was developed with advanced machine learning and a large dataset of clinical sleep apnea studies. Apple validated the feature in an extensive clinical trial, one of the largest conducted for sleep apnea detection technology. In this study, each participant identified by the algorithm as having a breathing disturbance showed at least mild sleep apnea.

]]>The post UAE Residents Rank Third For Password Forgetfulness appeared first on Tech Magazine.
]]>To assess this ranking, researchers used a composite score that included metrics such as the average number of accounts per person, the average duration between password resets, and the percentage of individuals searching for password resets.
In addition to its third-place position, the UAE also had the shortest average time between password resets at just 24 months. In contrast, New Zealand topped the rankings with an average of 72 months between resets.
As for the platforms where users often forget their passwords, popular services such as Gmail, Microsoft, Facebook, and Xbox topped the list. For those in the UAE, Gmail was the most commonly forgotten password.
The phenomenon known as “password fatigue” plays a significant role in the forgetfulness of UAE residents.
With many online platforms requiring users to create accounts for access, the number of passwords individuals must remember keeps increasing. In the UAE, the average number of accounts per person stands at 55, which means users might need to manage and recall 55 unique passwords.

Moreover, the days of simple passwords like “qwerty” or “12345” are rapidly fading. Many companies now impose strict password requirements, mandating at least eight characters, one uppercase letter, one special character, and so on.
This shift towards more complex passwords, combined with the growing number of platforms that require unique passwords, leads to mental overload. As a result, users become more prone to forgetting their login details.
One effective solution to the problems mentioned above is to use a password manager. These encrypted containers allow users to store all their passwords securely in one location. This way, instead of remembering numerous passwords, you only need to recall one — the master password for the password manager itself.
Additionally, many users choose single sign-on (SSO) options for website access. This feature enables them to log in using their Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, or Apple accounts, thus removing the need to create individual passwords for each new platform. However, users should exercise caution and evaluate a platform’s safety before linking third-party accounts.

The trial scheme is currently limited to the UAE, with no immediate plans by either company for expansion to regions such as the United States or China.
WeRide already operates the largest fleet of robotaxis in the UAE, with its services accessible through the TXAI app. Moreover, in July 2023, the tech company received the UAE’s first national license for self-driving cars, which authorized the testing and operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads throughout the country.

]]>The enrolment rate easily surpassed the MENA region’s already impressive 861% year-on-year growth and the worldwide rate of 1,060%, signifying an increase in interest from UAE learners in AI and machine learning skill sets.
“Compared to other markets, the UAE has a higher number of expats, so the workforce structure may be more inclined to adopt technology-related or technology-impacted roles,” said Nikolaz Foucaud, Coursera’s managing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to Coursera, the Emirates is now a leader in AI education, ranking third globally in the GenAI sector behind the USA and China. During the first quarter of 2024, over 1 million UAE users were active on the platform, with a median age of 35.
The MENA region is set to become a key player in digital transformation and trade, according to the report, as significant investments continue to be made in technology infrastructure and logistics. However, there is still a pressing need to boost technology skills proficiency, which currently sits at around 40%.
