Samsung appears poised to introduce its highly anticipated smart glasses in January 2025, alongside the launch of the Galaxy S25. According to sources in Korea, the company will first reveal the accompanying software platform later this month.

As per a report from Yonhap News, Samsung’s unveiling strategy for the smart glasses echoes its approach with the Galaxy Ring earlier this year. The January showcase won’t constitute a full product launch but will likely feature teaser visuals at the Galaxy S25 event. A more detailed rollout could follow in subsequent months.

The Galaxy Ring, for example, debuted in January via a short presentation during Samsung’s Unpacked event. The full product unveiling came later at MWC in February, and the final release followed in July. Samsung seems to be adopting a similar phased approach with its smart glasses, which are expected to hit the market in the third quarter of 2025.

A Collaborative Software Effort

Samsung’s partnership with Google has played a key role in developing the smart glasses’ software. This collaboration was first announced in February 2023, with the device set to run on an Android-based platform. In July, the companies reiterated their plans to deliver an extended reality (XR) platform by the end of the year. The software specifics for the XR device are expected to be unveiled before the end of December.

Reports suggest that the smart glasses will resemble Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in functionality. They won’t include a display but will weigh approximately 50 grams, emphasizing a lightweight, user-friendly design.

Feature Set And Compatibility

The glasses are rumored to integrate Google’s Gemini technology, alongside features like gesture recognition and potential payment capabilities. Samsung aims to create a seamless user experience by integrating the glasses with its broader Galaxy ecosystem, starting with the Galaxy S25, slated for release on January 22.

Recent reports from the Korean platform Naver hint that Samsung’s Galaxy Ring 2 could debut “slightly ahead” of its expected release timeline. However, no specific dates have been confirmed as yet.

A January launch (coinciding with the Galaxy S25 Ultra) seems unlikely, while a summer release wouldn’t be much of a deviation from the original Galaxy Ring’s timing. This leaves a speculative window between the two dates, though it would be unusual for Samsung to schedule a standalone event solely for the Galaxy Ring.

With only limited information available, it remains unclear if Samsung will opt for a surprise unveiling in January or stay close to the anticipated July launch. Should the rumors of an early release prove accurate, a January debut alongside the Galaxy S25 lineup is within the realm of possibility.

In addition to the timing of the upcoming release, reports also point to notable upgrades for the Galaxy Ring 2. A sleeker design and improved battery life are likely, while there are also mentions of new features, although specific details have not been disclosed.

Alongside the Galaxy Ring 2 news, rumors are circulating about Apple’s plans for wearable technology. Sources indicate that Apple is working on a ring-style device and exploring additional options, such as band-style wearables and smart glasses.

Although the concept of an Apple smart ring is not entirely new — Apple has previously filed patents for ring and glasses technology — the nature of the potential “band-type” device remains ambiguous. This could be an entirely new wearable format, or potentially similar to devices like the Whoop band.

Samsung first revealed the Ultra model of its Galaxy S smartphone series back in 2020, while at the same time dropping the popular Note branding from the lineup. The first handset with the new naming scheme was known as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, and although the South Korean tech giant has released several updated versions of the device in the years that followed, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is likely to be the final smartphone to carry the designation.

The reliable tech news source Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) has hinted that Samsung is considering renaming two phones in the Galaxy S series, beginning with the models to be released in 2026. In a post on X, Brar suggested that the Galaxy Ultra may get a rebrand as the Galaxy Note, while the “Plus” model will be renamed as the Pro.

According to the tech tipster, the transition (and return) to the Note and Pro naming scheme has already been finalized by Samsung. The company will likely launch the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Pro, and Galaxy S26 Note models in 2026. The change to Pro branding indicates that this smartphone variant may offer enhancements over the standard Galaxy S26 model, including a bigger display, improved camera, and boosted battery capacity.

It’s always advisable to approach tech leaks and rumors with skepticism, especially when they mention models that won’t be released until early 2026. Meanwhile, as we get closer to Q4 2024, the South Korean smartphone producer is reading the latest Galaxy lineup — the S25 — which is reported to be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset or Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 SoC.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra is squarely aimed at Apple’s device of the same name. The new watch offers increased battery life, superior durability, and detailed fitness and health tracking. Interestingly, the device also has a sleep apnea sensor that detects mild-to-severe breathing issues during a user’s sleep.

Galaxy Watch Ultra pre-orders have already opened, with full availability on July 24.

Priced at $299.99, the new Galaxy Watch 7 is Samsung’s more affordable timepiece. Despite the lower price point, the smartwatch still features the AI-powered sleep tools featured in the Galaxy Ring. The Watch 7 can also take body composition snapshots and is said to feature a much more accurate GPS chip.

The Galaxy Watch 7 will be released alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 24.

Although Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event didn’t show off any new flagship smartphones, we did get a new foldable in the form of the Z Fold 6. Google Gemini AI is integrated into the phone, and can help with scheduling, task and travel planning, plus transcribe meeting notes.

As for hardware, the latest Fold is being treated to a minor update for 2024. The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while the chassis (and screen) are now a few millimeters shorter and wider. Other small tweaks include a new brushed metal finish and updated colorways, while the camera and battery remain the same as on the outgoing model.

Like the rest of Samsung’s new lineup, The Z Fold 6 is available for pre-order now, with general release on July 24 — though you’ll have to fork out a hefty $1,899.99!

The summer months are usually a quiet time for new tech releases. However, the next Samsung Unpacked event — taking place in Paris on July 10 — could shake things up a little.

Although we’re unlikely to hear any news about next year’s Galaxy S devices, there’s a good chance we’ll learn more about Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones, a new smartwatch, and the hotly-anticipated Galaxy Ring that’s been teased over the last year.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

samsung galaxy ring wearable will launch in eight sizes

The Galaxy Ring is rumored to arrive “in or around August” according to Samsung itself, so it would be more of a surprise if the wearable didn’t make an appearance at Unpacked. The Galaxy Ring will come in three colors — gold, platinum silver, and ceramic black — and will be available in multiple sizes.

The device will monitor heart rate, breathing, and even movement, helping you track sleep. The ring is also expected to support fertility monitoring. The Galaxy Ring will pair with a Galaxy Watch, which will enable more precise health data.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 And Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are rumored to make an appearance at the Unpacked event in Paris, though updates will be relatively minor. The Z Flip 6 should get a battery capacity boost to 4,000 mAh, an optional 12GB RAM upgrade, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Cameras may be upgraded, too, with the 50MP camera from the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 coming to the Z Flip 6.

There has also been talk of a more premium foldable known as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, alongside slim versions of both foldable devices. However, we think these models are more likely to appear alongside the Galaxy S25 lineup in early 2025 — though we might get a teaser at this summer event.

Galaxy Watch And Galaxy Watch Ultra

Galaxy Watch 7 listings have already begun appearing on some online stores, so it’s likely we’ll see the new wearable appear at Unpacked. The Watch 7 is expected to sport a 3nm chipset with improved power and efficiency. The health sensors are due for a performance upgrade too.

Being 2024, AI features are sure to feature on the new Watch 7, including AI-powered sleep, exercise and messaging tools.

Rumors have also been circulating for some time about a Galaxy Watch Ultra. Leaked pictures suggest it’ll be thicker than a standard Galaxy Watch with a rectangular design and round watch face. Intriguingly, the Galaxy Watch Ultra may sport a digital crown-style dial instead of a rotating bezel.

Galaxy Buds 3 And Galaxy Buds 3 Pro

samsung galaxy buds 3 pro

It’s been several years since the last Galaxy Buds arrived on the scene, so we should hear an announcement about the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro at the July 10 Unpacked event.

Both models will be available in silver and white and have an IP57 dust and water resistance rating, along with SmartThings Find support. As with the Buds 2 Pro, the Buds 3 Pro will feature a two-way speaker designed to deliver improved audio, while the regular Buds 3 will stick to a one-way speaker. The higher-end model should also come with adaptive noise control, ambient sound, and blade lights while offering improved battery life.

Finally, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds are rumored to be adopting a stem design, like Apple’s AirPods. Whether you’re a fan of that layout or not, it does have the advantage of placing the microphone slightly closer to your mouth for potentially improved call quality.

The global launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring is hotly anticipated, with details about the next-gen wearable gradually emerging since the company’s teaser announcement back in January. Now, a report has also unveiled the model numbers for the device, suggesting it will be available in eight different sizes.

While Samsung has yet to divulge detailed specs and features of the Galaxy Ring, it’s likely to feature an array of health and sleep monitoring functionalities, while boasting a battery life of up to nine days on a single charge.

As per a Galaxy Club report, there are currently eight confirmed variants of the Galaxy Ring: SM-Q500, SM-Q501, SM-Q502, SM-Q505, SM-Q506, SM-Q507, SM-Q508, and SM-Q509.

However, the mystery shrouding two absent model numbers persists, leaving speculation as to whether they signify additional sizes or if Samsung plans to unveil a later ninth variant of the ring, as previously hinted. There’s conjecture that these models may correspond to US ring sizes 5 and above, commencing with the SMQ500, with subsequent numbers potentially indicating larger ring sizes, possibly reaching up to size 13, aligning with model number SM-Q509.

Samsung is banking on the user-friendly interface and high durability of the ring to redefine the healthcare wearables landscape. Meanwhile, Apple is also making strides in the development of a smart ring, aimed at monitoring users’ health biometrics discreetly when worn on the finger. According to the Electronic Times report, Apple has been closely monitoring market interest in this more inconspicuous alternative to a traditional watch.

After seeing Samsung’s demonstration video of its AI robot, Ballie, viewers might initially feel perplexed by the concept rather than persuaded to buy. At first glance, the compact, yellow robot, resembling a yoga ball looks pretty cute. However, some viewers may start to feel uneasy after seeing it chase after household pets. Nonetheless, its capabilities to carry out pet feeding, serve as a portable projector, and take on smart home control duties suggest it could be a valuable addition to households, should it ever materialize in stores.

Samsung Electronics debuted the prototype of the robot back at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where it appeared as a small, tennis ball-sized device accompanying the company’s CEO, H.S. Kim. Back then, its interactions were limited to emitting pleasant chimes in response to certain commands. However, a newly upgraded version of the robot was recently showcased in a pre-CES 2024 video presentation.

The video showcased Ballie’s versatile projection capabilities, from entertaining pets with tailored videos to projecting video calls on various surfaces and assisting in fitness routines by displaying workout videos. Samsung has explained that Ballie has the ability to autonomously adjust projections based on distance and lighting conditions, touting it as the first projector capable of discerning human posture and facial orientations to optimize projection angles.

Beyond its projection prowess, the video spotlighted Ballie’s role as a smart home assistant, managing household appliances such as lighting, air purifiers, and pet feeders while relaying user updates via text message. Its ability to follow users throughout the home gives the assistant droid and R2-D2-like quality, albeit without the iconic dome head and chirping soundtrack.

Despite the captivating presentation, Samsung has yet to offer information regarding Ballie’s availability and pricing. Unlike its live debut at CES 2020, the Korean tech giant opted for a video demonstration this time around.

South Korean tech giant Samsung has started 2024 by unveiling the Galaxy S24 series at the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event. The new smartphones come equipped with on-device generative AI, enhanced specifications, and upgraded camera capabilities.

As customary for Samsung’s early-year events, the S24 flagship phones took center stage. This year, the spotlight was on generative AI, a technology that has gained prominence with the arrival of ChatGPT, Google Bard and more. The Galaxy S24 series is among the first phones to launch with Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which features on-device generative AI capabilities.

The S24 series combines on-device and cloud-based generative AI, referred to as Galaxy AI, to deliver a range of innovative features. Some of these features, like live translation and text message tone suggestions, may sound familiar, while others, such as converting regular-speed videos into slow-motion by generating extra frames, are entirely new.

The top-tier model in the S24 series, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, has received substantial upgrades. It now boasts a titanium body, a 50-megapixel 5x optical camera for sharper distance photography (replacing the 10-megapixel 10x optical zoom camera), and comes with 12GB of RAM.

The standard S24 and S24+ models have fewer upgrades, with slightly larger screens and improved resolutions compared to their predecessors. The S24+ now shares the same Quad HD Plus resolution display as the S24 Ultra. Battery capacities have also increased slightly.

Samsung has also stepped up efforts to incorporate more recycled materials in the devices, including using cobalt in batteries and rare earth elements in speakers. Notably, Galaxy S24 phones will now receive seven years of Android and security updates, extending their lifespan into 2031.

Towards the end of the event, Samsung unveiled upcoming enhancements to Samsung Health, particularly in the realm of sleep tracking and other health metrics. The event’s climax was the surprise announcement of the Galaxy Ring, a device expected to be equipped with various sensors for continuous health monitoring throughout the day.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Pricing

Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at $800, the S24+ begins at $1,000, and the S24 Ultra will set enthusiasts back $1,300. Prices are in line with last year’s models, with the increase in the S24 Ultra attributed to the use of more durable materials.

Samsung is set to unveil its next line of mobile devices — likely the Galaxy S24 series — on January 17. The company’s Unpacked event will be one of the first major smartphone reveals of 2024, and the new devices are tipped to include several AI-powered features alongside the usual camera and processor upgrades.

Samsung typically uses new camera technologies to elevate its Galaxy phones over previous models. This year, however, AI is expected to feature heavily in the S24 lineup. The smartphones will be the first new devices to include Galaxy AI, which the company has already described as a “comprehensive mobile AI experience” during a teaser announcement last November.

Various rumors and leaks suggest that we should also see a titanium chassis design, along with flatter edges for the top-of-the-line Ultra model.
