Cloud and AI infrastructure experts Core42 have overhauled their Compass platform for enhanced navigation and easier access while adding a wealth of new features, including a Compass Chat mobile app.

Earlier this year, the company launched a new inferencing platform — Compass Version 2.0 — integrating Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 Ultra inference accelerators, allowing users to leverage a suite of pre-optimized Generative AI, Embeddings, Natural Language Processing AI models, Computer Vision, and APIs.

The latest update enables developers to analyze their usage on the platform and also includes a Stable Diffusion text-to-image model for high-quality image generation, typography, and prompt responses to queries.

“The Compass platform is a testament to Core42’s pursuit of excellence and innovation in AI infrastructure. The additions of the revamped Compass platform, as well as the introduction of the Compass Chat mobile app, will redefine how businesses interact with AI and provide even greater flexibility and efficiency in today’s digital era,” announced Raghu Chakravarthi, EVP of Engineering, Core42.

Compass Chat — available on Android and iOS — is designed to boost productivity and integrates with Entra ID to enhance security and streamline onboarding. Meanwhile, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology improves data reliability and accuracy. The app features a unified interface, consolidating work and search histories while enabling a more efficient user experience.

“Compass Chat provides access to leading AI models like GPT-4o and JAIS 30B, ensuring advanced language processing capabilities. It also supports both Arabic and English and offers seamless, synchronized chats across devices, allowing users to maintain productivity at their desks or on the move,” added Chakravarthi.

With the latest update of its Compass platform, Core42 continues to strengthen its product offering and offers yet more proof that the UAE is rapidly becoming a global hub for AI innovation.

Oracle is planning to open two new data centers in Morocco, which are expected to boost one of North Africa’s fastest-growing IT ecosystems and add to the influx of investments in the MENA technology scene.

The facilities are to be built in the capital, Casablanca, and the southern city of Settat. They will support digital transformation in Morocco and across North Africa while bringing the number of Oracle’s global cloud regions to 72. The company will offer dedicated, public, hybrid, and multi-cloud services to both enterprises and start-ups, as well as universities and government agencies.

“As one of the largest economies in Africa […] Morocco offers unique growth opportunities for businesses that are aiming to accelerate their expansion by deploying the latest digital technologies,” explained Richard Smith, executive vice president for technology in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Oracle.

The rate of adoption for cloud services in the Middle East continues to grow, driven by a technology-savvy young consumer base and a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The technology sector in Morocco is one of Africa’s fastest-growing and is now a vital component of its economy.

Overall, Morocco’s economy continued to strengthen last year, with real gross domestic growth expected to reach around 3.5% in the medium term.

“Oracle’s strategic investment marks a significant milestone in North Africa’s digital transformation journey,” noted Jyoti Lalchandani, regional managing director for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and India at market intelligence firm IDC.

Including the latest news about Morocco, Oracle’s MENA cloud regions have now increased to eight. In South Africa, the company has data centers in Johannesburg, and another is planned for Kenya. Meanwhile, the Middle East has centers in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Jeddah, with two additional facilities planned for the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and the high-tech city of Neom.

Oracle is set to expand its presence in Dubai as part of a broader strategy to bolster its cloud infrastructure in the Middle East in the midst of the region’s ongoing digital transformation.

The forthcoming expansion of Oracle’s Dubai office aims to provide customers with the opportunity to explore the future of their businesses through cutting-edge AI and cloud technologies.

A pivotal aspect of the expansion entails the development of a state-of-the-art customer experience center within Oracle’s Dubai facility. This center will not only serve as a showcase for innovative AI and cloud technologies but also feature futuristic workspaces designed to enhance employee productivity.

Presently, Oracle operates three live cloud regions in the Middle East, distributed across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Jeddah. Additionally, they have plans to establish two more in Riyadh and Neom, Saudi Arabia’s emerging high-tech city, to meet escalating demand.

While no specific timeline was provided for the launch of these upcoming cloud regions, it is evident that cloud adoption in the Middle East is thriving. A tech-savvy younger generation and government efforts to shape the digital future of their economies have spurred global cloud providers, including Oracle, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, and Alibaba Cloud, to invest in the region.

Although Oracle refrains from disclosing market share figures, recent industry data suggests Oracle has a 2% global market share, ranking eighth. Notably, Amazon Web Services leads with 32%, followed by Microsoft Azure with 22%, and Google Cloud with 11%.

As part of its commitment to fostering AI skills, Oracle has also partnered with the Dubai Business Women Council to launch the sAIdaty initiative, designed to empower women professionals and entrepreneurs. The year-long program aims to equip 500 council members with AI skills, contributing not only to their professional growth but also to the UAE’s digital economy objectives.
