A cutting-edge smart security system designed to detect unusual activity inside homes has been launched in Dubai. Unveiled during GITEX GLOBAL 2024, the system was introduced by Dubai Police in partnership with e& UAE to improve the safety of both homes and properties.

According to the Dubai Police website, the advanced system utilizes motion detectors capable of distinguishing between everyday activities and potential threats. Discreet door and window sensors are strategically placed at entry points, detecting unauthorized access and immediately triggering an alert to a 24/7 monitoring center. A touchscreen hub serves as the control panel, enabling users to manage all connected devices.

Masood M Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, stated, “For the first time in the UAE, we are integrating IoT-based home security systems with immediate police response to detected movements. This is a significant step towards transforming residential areas into smart, secure environments”.

The system uses state-of-the-art IoT sensors that detect irregular activities, paired with surveillance cameras that are monitored around the clock by e& UAE security centers. This setup ensures that any suspicious movement triggers an immediate response. The system can also be linked directly to a specialized operations room, allowing authorities to take swift action to verify any potential threats.

Customers will receive real-time alerts through a mobile app when any unusual activity is detected. They have the option to manage the system independently or connect it to a specialized monitoring center for further support, according to a statement by Dubai Police.

As the primary technology provider, e& UAE handles the system’s entire operation, from customer registration and installation to ongoing maintenance and technical support. The Dubai Police will oversee the integration for customers who choose to link their systems to the specialized operations room.

Dubai Police has introduced a groundbreaking device at the World Police Summit known as the Rapid Test Cup. The new narcotics analyzer ensures fast and accurate examination and identification of thirteen drug types, helping to reduce custody times from seven hours to just ten minutes. The Rapid Test Cup also eliminates the risk of human error or operator bias, setting it apart from conventional drug testing methods.

Although the new device is certainly innovative, developing the Rapid Test Cup was challenging. To ensure its effectiveness, the project underwent 3272 separate trials.

“We are working hard to overcome the high-cost techniques traditionally used for detection, such as manufactured cannabinoids, opiates, and ketamine. Our goal is to proactively detect modern drug abuse with quick, easy, and high-quality screening techniques,” said Faisal Al-Taniji, head of Dubai’s Department of Biological Movement at the Narcotics Observatory Center.

Dubai’s Police department has unveiled a new AI-based accident reporting tool at GITEX 2023. The system offers a convenient way for Dubai motorists to report road accidents and submit evidence via the official Dubai police app. As well as identifying those responsible, the technology will also save valuable time and reduce manual tasks by up to 50%.

According to a spokesperson, the AI reporting platform is 90% complete and will be accessible to the general public in the near future.

Dubai Police representatives went on to explain that AI is able to assess liability and identify damage, generating an accident report to aid them in issuing red slips to responsible parties and green slips to those unaccountable.

Dubai Adopts Its First Cryptocurrency Legislation https://techmgzn.com/dubai-adopts-its-first-cryptocurrency-legislation/ https://techmgzn.com/dubai-adopts-its-first-cryptocurrency-legislation/#respond Sun, 27 Mar 2022 10:15:41 +0000 https://techmgzn.com/?p=1540 Dubai Police will start using state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology to analyze the blockchain ledgers.

Like all technology, cryptocurrency can be used for both legitimate and nefarious purposes.

To establish Dubai as a cryptocurrency leader with a positive influence on the entire market, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has recently announced the adoption of the first legislation in the UAE to regulate cryptocurrency assets.

To oversee the execution of the new law and serve as a regulator of crypto activities, the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) has been set up in Dubai. One of VARA’s main responsibilities is the monitoring of virtual asset transactions to prevent price manipulations and other financial crimes. That’s no easy task to accomplish because popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are pseudonymous, allowing asset holders to keep their real identities hidden.

Fortunately for VARA, Dubai Police’s cybercrime unit has been developing and using cutting-edge technology to make sense of virtual asset transactions.

“Technology is changing the world, and law enforcement is a part of that change. In order to combat crime, we are constantly researching new technologies” said Brigadier Dr. Saleh Al Hamrani, Dubai Police’s Deputy Director-General of Excellence and Entrepreneurship.

More specifically, Dubai Police is using state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology to analyze the blockchain ledgers, which are essentially growing lists of records that are linked together as blocks using cryptography.

“We are going to work on the next generation of AI technology to help predict how and what are the risks we are going to face so that we are ready both internally and externally” Brig. Dr. Saleh added. “We are working and implementing AI not only for crime but also for traffic, security at the airport, and marine security”.

In the near future, the regulator of DIFC Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) is also supposed to publish its own cryptocurrency regulation, and we will definitely keep you informed about it.

A recently solved murder case in Dubai shows that science fiction movies have become a reality. Instead of traditional methods, the Dubai Police solved the case using a new technology developed by Brainwave Science, Inc, which makes it possible to literary read the minds of crime suspects.

This technology is called iCognative, but those familiar with it often call it “memory print” or “brain fingerprinting.” The science behind it is fairly easy to understand. When the human brain recognizes a known object, image, or piece of information, it involuntarily emits the so-called P300 wave.

The P300 wave is an event-related brain potential that can be measured using electroencephalography (EEG), and that’s exactly what iCognative does.

“We used the technology in a murder at a warehouse. Experts showed [the workers] pictures related to the crime, which only the person who committed it would know,” said Lt Colonel Mohammad Al Hammadi, Director of Criminology for Dubai Police. “After the session, the [brain mapping] device helped identify the main suspect who then admitted to having committed the murder.”

Lt Colonel Mohammad Al Hammadi has confirmed that the Dubai Police will continue using iCognative when solving future crimes. Other law enforcement agencies around the globe are also trialing the technology, while others, such as India’s police force, have been using it for years.

The technique for the detection of concealed information with event-related brain potentials was pioneered by American neuroscientist Lawrence A. Farwell, who described its potential for lie detection in his 2012 research paper.

If you would like to see a real convicted murderer, Steven Avery, be brain fingerprinted by Lawrence A. Farwell, you can watch the second season of Netflix’s “Making of a Murderer“. If this isn’t good use of science fiction, then I don’t know what is.
