Amazon.ae has rolled out its latest “It’s on Prime” platform and introduced a regional promotional campaign specifically targeting the UAE. The campaign was developed by Saatchi & Saatchi Middle East (ME) and consists of three new promo films and a range of social media ads, highlighting the variety of ways an Amazon Prime membership can make customers’ lives easier.

The films use a storytelling formula to promote benefits such as Free delivery, Amazon Fresh, and Prime Video, and feature a diverse collection of customers facing everyday challenges that can be solved by Amazon Prime.

Bruno Barbosa, Senior Creative Director for Saatchi & Saatchi ME, noted: “The biggest challenge was to find relevant and fresh insights that relate to the melting pot of nationalities across the UAE and craft stories that showcase all the benefits the brand has to offer without compromising on smooth and lighthearted storytelling”.

The first film shows a young woman moving out of her parents’ home. While the mother finds new ways to reach out as she misses her daughter, the young woman discovers a flair for cooking using Amazon Fresh and surprises her with a home-cooked dish.

In the second film, we see the day-to-day life of a couple with busy schedules and watch them find ways to connect. Amazon services help them buy items to make mornings easier, share home-cooked meals, and enjoy time watching their favorite shows.

The third film depicts the life of a family with a newborn baby. Amazon’s fast and free shipping helps them find simple ways to care for their baby while helping their eldest son connect with his younger brother.

Amazon has announced an AI upgrade for Alexa that will make the voice assistant even more helpful. “Our latest model has been specifically optimized for voice and the things we know our customers love — like having access to real-time information, efficiently controlling their smart home, and getting the most out of their home entertainment,” explained Dave Limp, SVP of devices and services at Amazon.

The new generative AI model can also adjust its tone and responses, losing the robotic voice and expressing more realistic emotions like excitement, laughter, and surprise.

“The capabilities deliver unique experiences based on the preferences that you’ve shared, the services that you’ve interacted with, and the information about the environment in and around your home,” says Limp. “The new model will allow you to surface personal reminders. For example, it can help you with recently played music or even come up with recipe recommendations based on your grocery purchases”.

In addition to the AI upgrade, Alexa now has the ability to continue conversations without the user saying “Alexa”. Overall, the latest upgrade should offer a richer, more convincing experience combined with improved functionality.

Amazon Web Services promotes itself as the “world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform”. Now, the service is set to enter the Middle Eastern region, using local data centers and creating approximately 6,000 jobs in the process. The operation will require an entire construction and infrastructure supply chain, from maintenance and engineering to telecoms and more, bringing a planned $5 billion investment to the region’s economy.

“AWS is committed to helping customers in the UAE deploy the most advanced cloud technologies and achieve the highest levels of security, availability, and resiliency […] we are making it possible for even more customers to harness the power of the cloud to drive innovation across the UAE, while also investing in the local economy through job creation, training for highly sought-after technology skills, and education resources to further advance the UAE’s strategic priorities,” says Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS.

With the Middle Eastern arm of its operation in full swing, Amazon Web Services will be available in 87 zones worldwide, covering 27 geographic regions. The AWS UAE region will comprise three separate zones, joining with Bahrain (launched in 2019). It will enable residents to store data securely while achieving lower latency across the country.

When it comes to uptake within the wider economy, the service is already thriving, with tens of thousands of customers already using AWS across the Middle East and North Africa, including heavyweights such as Al Ghurair Investment, the Dubai Islamic Bank, Alef and GEMS Education, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, and more.

Amazon’s Prime subscription service offers an excellent value proposition because it includes not only free shipping but also access to a huge library of songs, among other things. Unfortunately for music lovers in the MENA region, the Amazon Prime music library includes mostly songs from English-speaking countries. But that’s about to change soon because Amazon has partnered with Anghami, the first legal music streaming platform and digital distribution company in the Arab world.

As a result of the new partnership, Prime subscribers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will automatically get a free six-month subscription to Anghami Plus, a premium subscription service that offers an unlimited access to Anghami’s large content catalog and unlocks extra features such as the ability to play songs offline, display lyrics, and enjoy music in high quality.

Currently, Anghami provides its users access to more than 57 million Arabic and international songs, as well as podcasts and live radio. Amazon Prime subscribers who decide to keep using Anghami can get an additional 50% discount for the next six months.

When the value of Bitcoin, and most other cryptocurrencies along with it, suddenly jumps up from just under $30,000 to nearly $40,000, you know that either Elon Musk has tweeted again or that some potentially groundbreaking cryptocurrency news is making the headlines. This time around, it’s the latter. Insider recently noticed that Amazon’s payments acceptance and experience team has posted a job listing for a Digital Currency and Blockchain Product Lead, and journalists and cryptocurrency advocates alike have immediately started speculating if Amazon is planning to start accepting cryptocurrency payments.

“The Payments Acceptance & Experience team is seeking an experienced product leader to develop Amazon’s Digital Currency and Blockchain strategy and product roadmap,” the job listing states. “You will leverage your domain expertise in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currencies and Cryptocurrency to develop the case for the capabilities which should be developed, drive the overall vision and product strategy, and gain leadership buy-in and investment for new capabilities.”

According to Amazon’s qualifications requirements, the ideal candidate is someone who has at least 10 years of experience in product or program management, product marketing, business development, or technology and understands blockchain and related technologies.

Since the job listing was first noticed, Amazon has officially confirmed its validity. In May, a similar job listing was published by Apple.

Currently, Amazon doesn’t accept cryptocurrency payments, but the company’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) division does offer a managed blockchain service, allowing anyone to easily create and manage scalable blockchain networks.

Microsoft is the biggest competitor that already accepts cryptocurrency payments that Amazon currently has, and there are many other large companies across a variety of different industries doing the same. If Amazon decides to join their ranks, it would be the black swan event so many people in the cryptocurrency industry are currently waiting for.
