Yesterday’s Samsung’s Unpacked event revealed several new devices from the South Korean tech powerhouse, including a new foldable, two smartwatches, and the company’s long-rumored Galaxy Ring.

Here are the standout details of some of those gadgets:

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy Ring was revealed at the recent Unpacked event. As expected, it focuses heavily on health insights, most notably using AI to monitor sleep cycles. The lightweight ring is designed to be worn all the time and has a decent battery life of around a week.

You can pre-order the Galaxy Ring today, with full availability on July 24.

Pricing starts at $399.99.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra is squarely aimed at Apple’s device of the same name. The new watch offers increased battery life, superior durability, and detailed fitness and health tracking. Interestingly, the device also has a sleep apnea sensor that detects mild-to-severe breathing issues during a user’s sleep.

Galaxy Watch Ultra pre-orders have already opened, with full availability on July 24.

Pricing starts at $649.99.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7

Priced at $299.99, the new Galaxy Watch 7 is Samsung’s more affordable timepiece. Despite the lower price point, the smartwatch still features the AI-powered sleep tools featured in the Galaxy Ring. The Watch 7 can also take body composition snapshots and is said to feature a much more accurate GPS chip.

The Galaxy Watch 7 will be released alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 24.

Pricing starts at $649.99.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Although Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event didn’t show off any new flagship smartphones, we did get a new foldable in the form of the Z Fold 6. Google Gemini AI is integrated into the phone, and can help with scheduling, task and travel planning, plus transcribe meeting notes.

As for hardware, the latest Fold is being treated to a minor update for 2024. The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while the chassis (and screen) are now a few millimeters shorter and wider. Other small tweaks include a new brushed metal finish and updated colorways, while the camera and battery remain the same as on the outgoing model.

Like the rest of Samsung’s new lineup, The Z Fold 6 is available for pre-order now, with general release on July 24 — though you’ll have to fork out a hefty $1,899.99!

The summer months are usually a quiet time for new tech releases. However, the next Samsung Unpacked event — taking place in Paris on July 10 — could shake things up a little.

Although we’re unlikely to hear any news about next year’s Galaxy S devices, there’s a good chance we’ll learn more about Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones, a new smartwatch, and the hotly-anticipated Galaxy Ring that’s been teased over the last year.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

samsung galaxy ring wearable will launch in eight sizes

The Galaxy Ring is rumored to arrive “in or around August” according to Samsung itself, so it would be more of a surprise if the wearable didn’t make an appearance at Unpacked. The Galaxy Ring will come in three colors — gold, platinum silver, and ceramic black — and will be available in multiple sizes.

The device will monitor heart rate, breathing, and even movement, helping you track sleep. The ring is also expected to support fertility monitoring. The Galaxy Ring will pair with a Galaxy Watch, which will enable more precise health data.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 And Galaxy Z Flip 6

samsung galaxy fold 6 ultra leak

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are rumored to make an appearance at the Unpacked event in Paris, though updates will be relatively minor. The Z Flip 6 should get a battery capacity boost to 4,000 mAh, an optional 12GB RAM upgrade, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Cameras may be upgraded, too, with the 50MP camera from the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 coming to the Z Flip 6.

There has also been talk of a more premium foldable known as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, alongside slim versions of both foldable devices. However, we think these models are more likely to appear alongside the Galaxy S25 lineup in early 2025 — though we might get a teaser at this summer event.

Galaxy Watch And Galaxy Watch Ultra

samsung galaxy watch 7 ultra leak

Galaxy Watch 7 listings have already begun appearing on some online stores, so it’s likely we’ll see the new wearable appear at Unpacked. The Watch 7 is expected to sport a 3nm chipset with improved power and efficiency. The health sensors are due for a performance upgrade too.

Being 2024, AI features are sure to feature on the new Watch 7, including AI-powered sleep, exercise and messaging tools.

Rumors have also been circulating for some time about a Galaxy Watch Ultra. Leaked pictures suggest it’ll be thicker than a standard Galaxy Watch with a rectangular design and round watch face. Intriguingly, the Galaxy Watch Ultra may sport a digital crown-style dial instead of a rotating bezel.

Galaxy Buds 3 And Galaxy Buds 3 Pro

samsung galaxy buds 3 pro

It’s been several years since the last Galaxy Buds arrived on the scene, so we should hear an announcement about the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro at the July 10 Unpacked event.

Both models will be available in silver and white and have an IP57 dust and water resistance rating, along with SmartThings Find support. As with the Buds 2 Pro, the Buds 3 Pro will feature a two-way speaker designed to deliver improved audio, while the regular Buds 3 will stick to a one-way speaker. The higher-end model should also come with adaptive noise control, ambient sound, and blade lights while offering improved battery life.

Finally, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds are rumored to be adopting a stem design, like Apple’s AirPods. Whether you’re a fan of that layout or not, it does have the advantage of placing the microphone slightly closer to your mouth for potentially improved call quality.

South Korean tech giant Samsung has started 2024 by unveiling the Galaxy S24 series at the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event. The new smartphones come equipped with on-device generative AI, enhanced specifications, and upgraded camera capabilities.

As customary for Samsung’s early-year events, the S24 flagship phones took center stage. This year, the spotlight was on generative AI, a technology that has gained prominence with the arrival of ChatGPT, Google Bard and more. The Galaxy S24 series is among the first phones to launch with Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which features on-device generative AI capabilities.

The S24 series combines on-device and cloud-based generative AI, referred to as Galaxy AI, to deliver a range of innovative features. Some of these features, like live translation and text message tone suggestions, may sound familiar, while others, such as converting regular-speed videos into slow-motion by generating extra frames, are entirely new.

The top-tier model in the S24 series, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, has received substantial upgrades. It now boasts a titanium body, a 50-megapixel 5x optical camera for sharper distance photography (replacing the 10-megapixel 10x optical zoom camera), and comes with 12GB of RAM.

The standard S24 and S24+ models have fewer upgrades, with slightly larger screens and improved resolutions compared to their predecessors. The S24+ now shares the same Quad HD Plus resolution display as the S24 Ultra. Battery capacities have also increased slightly.

Samsung has also stepped up efforts to incorporate more recycled materials in the devices, including using cobalt in batteries and rare earth elements in speakers. Notably, Galaxy S24 phones will now receive seven years of Android and security updates, extending their lifespan into 2031.

Towards the end of the event, Samsung unveiled upcoming enhancements to Samsung Health, particularly in the realm of sleep tracking and other health metrics. The event’s climax was the surprise announcement of the Galaxy Ring, a device expected to be equipped with various sensors for continuous health monitoring throughout the day.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Pricing

Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at $800, the S24+ begins at $1,000, and the S24 Ultra will set enthusiasts back $1,300. Prices are in line with last year’s models, with the increase in the S24 Ultra attributed to the use of more durable materials.

Samsung is set to unveil its next line of mobile devices — likely the Galaxy S24 series — on January 17. The company’s Unpacked event will be one of the first major smartphone reveals of 2024, and the new devices are tipped to include several AI-powered features alongside the usual camera and processor upgrades.

Samsung typically uses new camera technologies to elevate its Galaxy phones over previous models. This year, however, AI is expected to feature heavily in the S24 lineup. The smartphones will be the first new devices to include Galaxy AI, which the company has already described as a “comprehensive mobile AI experience” during a teaser announcement last November.

Various rumors and leaks suggest that we should also see a titanium chassis design, along with flatter edges for the top-of-the-line Ultra model.

The event takes place on January 17 in San Jose, California, at 10 am Pacific Time. There will also be a live stream of the event and a promotion offering $50 of credit for customers who want to reserve a handset through Samsung’s website.

]]>
Samsung has just concluded its second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023. After stunning tech enthusiasts with its Galaxy S23 line, the Korean electronics powerhouse is preparing to release a raft of new devices.

Here’s what we learned from the event:

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 & Galaxy Z Fold5

samsung galaxy z flip5 and galaxy z fold5

Samsung’s 5th generation foldables are sleek and compact, with multiple customization options and powerful performance. Main screens are equipped with shock dispersion layers, and a new integrated hinge features a dual rail structure to diffuse external impacts.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 now features a 3.78x larger Flex Window, while a new Flipsuit Case provides protection with a changeable NFC card. Users can snap hands-free photos using FlexCam and edit the shots in Flex Mode. As well as an improved Nightography capability, an AI-powered image signal processing (ISP) algorithm helps to correct visual noise while enhancing details and tone.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is the “thinnest, lightest Fold yet.” The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset uses AI to enhance gaming, while an advanced cooling system dissipates heat more effectively for less lag and performance drops. Peak brightness from the 7.6-inch main screen has increased by more than 30%, meaning improved outdoor viewing, especially in bright sunlight.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9

samsung galaxy tab s9

The new Galaxy Tab S9 comes in three sizes: The 14.6-inch Tab S9 Ultra, 12.4-inch Tab S9+, and the 11-inch Tab S9.

The 14.6-inch model features a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, while HDR10+ allows scene-by-scene, frame-by-frame tone optimization. The dynamic refresh rates of the Galaxy Tab S9 models automatically calibrate from 60 to 120Hz to balance smoothness with optimized battery life, and an Eye Comfort mode reduces strain and blocks blue light by over 70%. Audio capabilities are also enhanced by the 20% larger quad speakers with sound by AKG and Dolby Atmos.

Galaxy Watch6 & Galaxy Watch6 Classic

At the Unpacked event, Samsung also introduced two new smartwatch models, the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic. The Galaxy Watch6 comes in a 44mm Graphite and Silver case or a 40mm Graphite and Gold model. The Galaxy Watch6 Classic features a rotating bezel and is available in Black and Silver 43mm and 47mm versions. The Galaxy Watch6 now has a 30% slimmer bezel, while the Galaxy Watch6 Classic sports a 15% thinner rotating version.

Both devices offer in-depth sleep analysis and feature a Personalized Heart Rate Zone that defines five optimal running intensity levels. In addition, a new Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature helps wearers monitor their heart health more accurately.

The Middle East’s Top Smartphone Brand

Samsung is currently the top smartphone vendor in the Middle East, with 3.8 million handsets shipped in Q1 2023. However, the company has plans to expand its MENA reach even further. “This year, [we are] in preparation for an even more significant increase in demand. We have ramped up manufacturing capabilities accordingly. Not just smartphones but also tablets and wearable devices, we see an incredible market opportunity to drive additional growth across these devices,” explained Fadi Abu Shamat, Spokesperson and Head of Mobile eXperience Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

Samsung has announced dates for its next Unpacked event, which will take place on July 26th at 7AM ET. The press release makes it obvious that new foldable smartphones will be unveiled at the show, which will presumably be the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and likely the Z Fold 5 as well. In addition, leaks suggest that a Galaxy Watch 6 reveal will take place, along with news on the latest Galaxy Tablets.

The flip-style foldables in Samsung’s lineup are expected to include lower-profile hinges, with the Flip upgrading its tiny second screen to something much larger.

For the first time, Samsung has some serious competition in the foldable genre, with Google recently releasing its own Pixel Fold and Motorola resurrecting the famous Razr brand of handsets in the form of the Razr Plus.

We take an in-depth look at the new line of handsets, including the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra.

Samsung has just unveiled its latest generation of flagship smartphones, the hotly anticipated Galaxy S23 series, which are now available for pre-order.

This year’s upgrades have resulted in considerable cosmetic changes, but apart from a standout camera on the S23 Ultra, the internals of the handsets haven’t been drastically overhauled.

Here’s everything you need to know about Samsung’s new devices:

When Will The Samsung Galaxy S23 Phones Be Available?

Samsung revealed all three S23 phones at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1st. However, enthusiasts will have to wait until at least February 17th to get their hands on the new devices.

We’re sticking to “at least February 17th” for now, as we’ve only been able to get firm dates for the UAE market. If you’re keen to pre-order a handset, here’s the pricing structure for the different storage options on offer (prices may change from country to country):

First up is the entry-level S23, which ships with two different internal storage sizes:

  • Galaxy S23 with 128GB storage: $875
  • Galaxy S23 with 256GB storage: $945

Next is the S23+, which receives a storage bump over the standard model:

  • Galaxy S23+ with 256GB storage: $1,070
  • Galaxy S23+ with 512GB storage: $1,205

Finally, the Ultra version gets an additional 1TB storage option:

  • Galaxy S23 Ultra with 256GB storage: $1,355
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra with 512GB storage: $1,495
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra with 1TB storage: $1,765

As you can see, those prices are quite a bit more expensive than the outgoing models, though you could argue the bump in base storage makes the increases easier to swallow.

Depending on which model you pre-order, Samsung is including a bunch of free gifts such as the Galaxy Watch 5, Buds 2 Pro, accessories, wearables and more!

Samsung Galaxy S23 Details & Specifications

Galaxy S23 Base Model

samsung galaxy s23 and s23+

The regular S23 looks decidedly different from the outgoing S22. A more minimalist camera array has replaced the older contour-cut module, and a tweaked color palette of four finishes is now available across all three models in the series:

  • Green
  • Lavender
  • Cream
  • Phantom Black

Ordering on Samsung’s online store unlocks two further color options:

  • Graphite
  • Lime

Though the design has changed a fair bit, the standard S23 is basically the same size and weight as last year’s model and utilizes an identical 120Hz AMOLED 6.1in display. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 should make for a more resilient screen, but the IP68 water and dust-resistance ratings also remain unchanged. Camera specs on the S23 stay the same as the outgoing S22, though the selfie camera gets a modest bump from 10MP to 12MP.

Although perhaps not a deal breaker for casual users, the phone’s internals are interesting for tech geeks: The S23 lineup now uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips in all regions, with Samsung ditching its traditional tactic of using Qualcomm silicon in the USA and Exynos processors in most other markets.

Storage options and RAM remain the same as the S22, though battery capacity jumps from 3700mAh to 3900mAh.

Overall looks aside, the new S23 smartphone doesn’t differ significantly from the outgoing model, though you’ll get improved camera software, Android 13 and One UI 5.1, with four years of OS updates and a fifth year of security patches.

Galaxy S23 Specs:

Display: 6.1in, 48-120Hz / FHD+ / AMOLED

Galaxy S23+

samsung galaxy s23+ and s23

The middle offering of the 2023 Galaxy smartphone lineup is the S23+. The specs and design are essentially the same as the base S23, including the colorways on offer. However, the S23+ boasts a slightly larger screen at 6.6 inches, plus a larger battery, faster 45W wired charging, and greater internal storage as standard.

Galaxy S23+ Specs:

Display: 6.6in, 48-120Hz / FHD+ / AMOLED
Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Memory: 8GB

Weight: 196g
Galaxy S23 Ultra

samsung galaxy s23 ultra

The final phone in Samsung’s lineup is the S23 Ultra. This handset mirrors the other phones in terms of design language, again employing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. However, the screen on the S23 Ultra is a larger 6.8-inch display with a curved panel and dynamic refresh rate (1-120Hz).

The Galaxy S23 Ultra supports the S-Pen stylus, which is included and slots neatly into the phone. The Ultra also gets the bigger 1TB storage option, as well as a 12GB RAM model in certain markets. 45W wired fast charging is supported, along with 15W wireless, but the phone’s battery remains the same as the outgoing S22 Ultra, at 5000mAh.

Of course, the S23 Ultra has been hotly anticipated due to its rumored camera upgrades. Here, the new model really does deliver as promised, with a monstrous 200-megapixel 1/1.3 inch primary sensor boasting enhanced HDR and superior low-light focusing:

“When in low-lit environments, the sensor transforms either into a 1.2μm 50Mp or 2.4μm 12.5Mp image sensor by binding four to 16 neighboring pixels. For fuller 8K video, approximately at 33Mp, the HP2 switches to 1.2μm 50Mp mode to minimize cropping and capture more of the scene. Filming 8K at 30 frames-per-second (fps), a wide field of view, and a bigger pixel size can produce sharp cinematic videos,” says Samsung.

Aside from the primary shooter, the S23 Ultra uses the existing ultrawide, 3x, and 10x zoom hardware found in its predecessor but moves to the same 12MP selfie camera as the other devices in the lineup.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Specs:

Display: 6.8in, 1-120Hz / QHD+ / AMOLED
Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Memory: 8/12GB
Storage: 256/512GB/1TB
Battery: 5000mAh
Wired Charging: 45W
Wireless Charging: 15W
Main Camera: 200MP, f/1.7, OIS
Ultrawide Camera: 12MP, f/2.2
Telephoto Camera 1: 10MP, f/2.4, OIS 3x zoom
Telephoto Camera 2: 10MP, f/4.9, OIS 10x zoom
Front Camera: 12MP, f/2.2
Connectivity: 5G / Wi-Fi 6E / Bluetooth 5.3
Water Resistance: IP68
Front & Back Glass: Gorilla Glass Victus 2
Software: Android 13 – One UI 5.1
Dimensions: 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm
Weight: 234g

Summing Up

So there you have it. Everything you need to know about Samsung’s 2023 flagship devices. While this year’s lineup offers plenty of cosmetic upgrades over the S22 series, internal changes are less radical. So unless you absolutely have to get your hands on the S23 Ultra’s 200-megapixel camera, those looking for a mid-tier device might be inclined to wait before upgrading.

Unlike last year’s conference, which happened under COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s event will be held in person.

Samsung may have unintentionally confirmed that it will unveil next-generation flagship phones at the beginning of February, according to news from 9to5Google. The company’s Colombian website recently published a page that mentioned a Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for February 1st, 2023, using the tagline “Epic Moments are Approaching” with the camera setup of the Galaxy S23 Ultra clearly showing.

Although several sources took screenshots of the page, the story is no longer viewable on the Columbian website. The announcement didn’t explicitly mention the upcoming Galaxy S23, but did show the flagship phone’s rumored triple-camera configuration. The teaser page’s color palette is also thought to give a hint towards the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra’s new colorways of green and lilac.

Previous Unpacked events have also taken place in early February, so this news confirms what we were already pretty certain about. In addition, further rumors suggest that the launch will take place in San Francisco.

The upcoming smartphones will reportedly ditch Exynos chips in favor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for all worldwide markets. The Korean tech giant typically equips USA, Asian and European models with different processors, so the new models will represent something of a departure.

Finally, one of the most hotly anticipated features of the new handsets are their upgraded cameras: The flagship Galaxy S23 will likely feature a huge 200-megapixel main camera, while the base models will still come with a 50-megapixel primary shooter.

Summer 2022 has already seen several major tech releases, including the Google Pixel 6a and the much-hyped Nothing Phone 1. This week, it was industry giant Samsung’s turn to show off its latest designs at the annual Galaxy Unpacked event. The virtual presentation gave us a glimpse of several new releases, from smartphones to earphones and more.

Galaxy Z Fold 4

A new Galaxy Fold will always be the star in any product announcement, and this summer’s reveal was no exception. The foldable device blends the line between tablet and smartphone, and this year’s Fold 4 brings several improvements, including a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor for faster performance, smaller bezels, and a reduction in the noticeable size of the screen crease.

The Fold 4 team has concentrated on incremental improvements for this device iteration, so there’s a tweaked aspect ratio, a slightly lighter weight and an increase in stiffness for the new model, plus software improvements to aid with multitasking. Overall, the device looks like an exciting release, and we can’t wait to get our hands on one!

Galaxy Z Flip 4

The Flip 4 is arguably the more accessible and exciting of Samsung’s foldables, bringing back the much-loved clamshell format to create a pocketable large-screen smartphone.

This year’s Flip 4 offers a higher capacity battery, rapid charging, and the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor seen in the Galaxy Fold 4. The upgrades are all welcome additions to the smartphone, though it has to be said that the camera specs still don’t seem like they’re going to worry other flagship devices.

Galaxy Watch 5 & Watch 5 Pro

Samsung seems to have a habit of releasing new watches at all of its events, and this year’s Galaxy Unpacked was no exception, showing off two new wearables: The Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The non-pro model is the smaller of the two devices and now features a few decent upgrades, including a sapphire glass face. The Watch 5 Pro takes the place of previous Classic models, and although the watch boasts a huge new battery, the iconic rotating bezel is now gone forever.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Finally, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro were also on display at the event as a perfect partner for the newly announced range of foldable phones. The earbuds have always been a solid premium design with excellent sound, so we’re keen to get our hands on a set very soon.

Overall, an exciting event for Samsung. While nothing revolutionary was announced, the devices featured had a raft of upgrades that should keep the lineup fresh and perhaps even tempt the odd Apple fan to jump ship!
